One player decided to think
outside the box to defend a corner kick during a game in Spain’s third division
recently – after climbing up a goal post during a set piece.
Daniel Nadales, captain of Spanish outfit CD Cuarte, was pictured
using the highly unusual tactic as an opposition player took a corner
during his side’s 3-1 loss to CD Teruel on Sunday.
With all the players focusing their attention on the incoming
corner, Nadales scrambled up the post to try and help his side defend – a move
that was captured by a photographer.
Despite being caught in the act, though, Nadales went on to escape
punishment from the referee after the official failed to see him.
The defender – who has since earned the nickname ‘Koala’ –
admitted after the game he hadn’t intended on climbing up the goal post
and it had been purely spontaneous.
Even so, we bet he won’t be repeating this tactic again…
