Raheem
Sterling has hinted he would be interested in a future move to Arsenal after
claiming it was ‘quite flattering’ to be linked with the north London club.
The England winger has two years left to run on his current deal
at Liverpool but is yet to agree terms over extending his stay at Anfield.
It
had been reported that the player’s representatives had turned down a
£100,000-per-week offer from Liverpool but, in an interview with the BBC, Sterling claimed there was more
to the negotiations than simply money.
‘I don’t want to be perceived as a money-grabbing 20-year-old,’ he
said. ‘It’s never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my
career. That’s all I talk about.
‘I don’t talk about how many cars I’m going to drive, how many
houses I’ve got. I just purely want to be the best I can be.’
The comments will hearten Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who is
a known admirer of the player.
The Gunners have been linked with a summer move for Sterling, with
a swap deal involving Theo Walcott touted in the media.
