Tottenham
have lodged a £13million transfer bid for Sassuolo striker Simone Zaza,
according to the Serie A club’s CEO.
A versatile, left-footed forward, Zaza has managed nine goals in
all competitions this season, and is now a target for Mauricio Pochettino as he
seeks to provide support for Harry Kane.
The 23-year-old signed permanently for Sassuolo this summer having
previously been co-owned by Juventus, but the Serie A leaders have the right to
re-purchase him for £10.8million in the close season.
Spurs have made a move to beat the Italian giants, though, with
Sassuolo CEO John Carnevali claiming that the North London side have made an
offer in the region of £13million.
‘Tottenham
have offered a substantial figure for him, more than Juventus should invest to
buy it back,’ he told Gazzetta
dello Sport.
‘We have the need and obligation to sell Zaza after this season.
‘There are other requests from abroad for him, but the player will
decide what to do.’
