There will be no more new versions of Windows after
Microsoft releases Windows 10 this year, a major Windows developer has
revealed.
But don’t panic, Microsoft fans – you
won’t suddenly be asked to do something terrible like switch to Mac OS X.
Instead, users will be offered an
ongoing series of updates to Windows 10, as Microsoft moves over to a new
business model of delivering, ‘Windows as a service.’
Speaking at the company’s Ignite
conference, ‘developer evangelist’ Jerry Nixon said, ‘Right now we’re releasing
Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all
still working on Windows 10.
Microsoft confirmed the idea in a
statement where it said that it would continue to support Windows 10 in an
‘ongoing manner’ with ‘incremental updates’
