The plight of the veteran actor
aroused a nation wide uproar which led to a cry for help. The Mzee was rescued
and taken to hospital last week by the Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko.
Benson Wanjau, better known by his
screen name ‘Mzee Ojwang’ had been battling eyesight failure due to the effects
of diabetes and was on Wednesday taken to Lions Sight First Eye Hospital in
Loresho.
He went through an eye operation on
Friday. The veteran actor has now been discharged after a successful operation.
The government has pledged to step
in and pay the Mzee’s hospital bills. “The
Government will pay the medical bill
for Mzee Ojwang’. We wish him a quick recovery,” the Deputy President posted on
his Twitter account Friday.
It is definitely good news that the actor has gotten aid from everyone and that Kenyans have shown the love and appreciation they have towards the veteran actor.
